    Q:

Why is there a membership fee to join?

    A:

Pebble Tossers provides supplies and event coordination for all our service projects. We don’t charge our nonprofit partners and your annual membership fee helps underwrite the costs of all the supplies. Becoming a member provides you full access to participate in an unlimited number of projects each year, gives you a personal service dashboard to keep track of all your volunteer hours, and allows full access to all of our service-related resources, such as youth development workshops, “How To” sheets and more.

Membership of $35/$100 increases Pebble Tossers capacity to serve the community.  As a self-sustaining organization fueled by a consistent stream of revenue, Pebble Tossers will be able to:

    • Purchase supplies and materials needed for service projects
    • Hire qualified, professional staff to lead and teach our youth and teens
    • Reduce our dependence on seasonal donation cycles
    • Maintain innovative technology solutions to meet the expectations of our tech-savvy youth and teen members
    • Provide high-quality character and leadership development curriculum for our youth and teen members
    • Maintain high-quality relationships with our nonprofit partners

    Q:

How can I get my child involved?

You can search for volunteer opportunities by browsing projects or organizations on the Pebble Tossers Volunteer Portal. All of our projects have recommended ages or age requirements listed.

    Q:

How can I get my scout troop or youth group involved?

    A:

In order for each volunteer to track their hours and create their own service transcript, we recommend asking each family in your group to create their own membership. We are working on a Group feature, which individuals can associate themselves with different groups, such as school classes, scout troops, etc. We hope to add this feature in 2019.

    Q:

How old should my child be to volunteer?

    A:

Pebble Tossers believes youth learn best by seeing and doing. It starts at home, with simple things like making a bed, and then moves up to more complex things like organizing a neighborhood lemonade stand or serving meals to those in need. Studies show when kids start volunteering at an early age with their families, they are more likely to volunteer as an adult. Typically, empathy is shown in children as young as four years old. Our youngest volunteer has been 18 months and our oldest has been 92! You know your child best, so participating may depend on the type of project. For example: serving breakfast to those in need is better suited for kids 10 and up, while working a craft with an elderly resident at an assisted living is suitable for kids of all ages.

    Q:

Do adults need to participate with their children?

    A:

It’s not always required, but definitely encouraged! Pebble Tossers recommends that anyone under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult on projects. Please note that certain nonprofit organizations have minimum age requirements, and that will be listed in their profile or on the project description.

    Q:

Can Pebble Tossers create a custom service project for me or my group?

    A:

Yes we can! Pebble Tossers has strong relationships with over 60 top-tier nonprofits throughout Greater Atlanta and we can find the right fit for you and your interests. For a tax deductible donation, we can develop a custom Volunteer Experience Package for you, whether it’s for a birthday party, a scout troop, a bar/bat mitzvah project, etc.  Send us an email at outreach@pebbletossers.org to find out more.

    Q:

Why should I log my service hours?

    A:

Keeping a record of your service hours in one place provides valuable information for schools, Scouts, and youth organizations that require service hours. It is also a valuable resource when applying for schools, colleges, and adding to your resumes. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of the details! You can just focus on your next project and Pebble Tossers will keep track of the ones you’ve already completed.

    Q:

Why should we volunteer as a family?

    A:

Working together as a family provides opportunities for passing on family values, sharing quality time, learning the importance of working together, and discovering more about your community. Involving children in the volunteer process helps them feel valued, acquire new skills, and develop compassion and understanding for others. They can experience and learn respect for people of different backgrounds, physical appearances, and beliefs. Family volunteering will have a lasting, positive impact on our society that creates a “ripple effect” for generations to come. Family volunteering also helps local nonprofit organizations broaden their services, their community outreach, and improves their public image and relations.
